Eleven types of Spanish cheeses have been ranked among top 58 best cheeses in the world and had won a ” SuperGold ” medal at the great World Cheese Awards held in Birmingham (UK) last summer. This award is considered one of the most prestigious international competitions in the world.

A total of 250 expert tasters had the difficult task of selecting the winners from more than 2,800 pieces. In the first phase 700 selected cheeses worthy of Bronze, Silver and Gold.

16 experts from 13 countries jury said the 58 pieces worthy of this distinction, which include eleven Spanish cheeses.

The Spanish cheeses that received a ‘Super Gold’ medal were:

5 DEL VALLE DEL DUERO, TORTA HACIENDA ZORITA
6 DE ALBACETE, QUESO MANCHEGO DEHESA DE LOS LLANOS GRAN RESERVA
7, DE BADAJOZ, CANCHO ROANO
8. DE LLEIDA, CRISEMBERT, FORMATGES CAMPS
9 DE VALENCIA, QUESO DE OJEJA SEMICURADO
10 DE LEÓN, PATA DE MULO CURADO LOS PAYUELOS
11 DE CÁDIZ, EL BOSQUEÑO CABRA DE PAYOYA AL PIMENTÓN 

The Manchego DO Gran Reserva, from Dehesa de los Llanos in the province of Albacete, becomes the first champion from mainland Spain in two decades of the international award scheme in the 2012 edition.
